Summer Strong

Smoothie Recipe healthy nycpretty Christine Bibbo Herr

In the summer heat, one of my favorite ways to stay healthy and keep my belly satisfied is to start my day with a power-packed smoothie and my multi-vitamin. I’ve been trying out Alive!® Multi-Vitamins, a multi-vitamin that provides high potency B-vitamins which helps your body convert food into energy.* Just what I need to set a positive tone for the rest of my day.

My go-to recipe (below) provides a mix of fruits and veggies but tastes like a delicious dessert!

Summer Smoothie

1 Cup of Almond Milk
2 Handfuls of Spinach
1 Cup Strawberries
1 Cup Frozen Blueberries
1 Banana
1 Cup of Granola
1 Spoonful of Chia Seeds

Besides my healthy eating habits, I also always try to do some sort of physical activity each day. I mix in running, walking, biking and sometimes surfing (depending on the season), to keep my workout routine spontaneous and fun! I love an outdoor sweat-sesh if the weather is in my favor, so I save the gym and studio classes for winter months. Plus, I find that if I get creative and have fun with fitness I don’t even realize I’m burning calories! I try to stick to at least a 45 minute workout but if i’m pressed for time a simple circuit like the one below gets my heart rate up and packs a punch that works wonders.

WORKOUT:
-Quick warmup walk (2-5 minutes)
-Stretch hamstrings and back by bending down and touching toes (About 1 minute)
-Lunge stretches, holding each lunge for 5 breaths. (Repeat 5 x’s each leg)
– High knee lifts (As many as you can for about 1 minute)
-Get moving and go for a jog. ( 2-4 miles)
-Find a park bench and start your arm dips and pushup’s (5 reps of 10 for each move)
-Jumping jacks (50)
-Burpees (3 reps of 10)
-Cool down and walk about 1 minute-
